2024 Maryville College Blister In The Sun

In April, Maryville College hired me to cover their annual Blister in the Sun, a fun event put on by the Student Programming Board toward the end of the year for the students. Various clubs had interactive booths and there were tons of games and fun for the students to participate.

2024 America's Seed Fund Tour

In May 2024, I photographed a stop of the “America’s Seed Fund Tour” at the University of Tennessee conference center in downtown Knoxville hosted by Launch TN, the Small Business Administration, and UT’s Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development. “America’s Seed Fund Road Tour is a national outreach effort to connect innovators and entrepreneurs to non-dilutive, technology funding opportunities provided through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, known as “America’s Seed Fund”. ”

Representatives from different federal agencies like NASA, USDA, DOE, various military branches, etc. gave local entrepreneurs and innovators a chance to pitch their ideas in a something like a speed dating scenario in the hopes of securing federal funding for their projects. There were also panel discussions and seminars as well as all the networking that could be had.

2024 UT Law School Graduation

In April, the University of Tennessee College of Law hired me to photograph some of its graduating students at Neyland Stadium before a special event. These graduates were super fun to photograph and I loved being down in the tunnels of the stadium once again. What a backdrop for some portraits!

Mandalorian Merc Qotsa Koth

In March 2024, a client and friend wanted to show off his custom Mandalorian armor he made through self-teaching himself 3D printing and sewing. He was proud of the fact that he had recently been accepted into the exclusive cosplay group, the Mandalorian Mercs, a Disney/Star Wars authorized fan organization that celebrates all things Mandalorian and participates in multiple fan and charity events throughout the year. After several rounds of revisions, he was accepted into the clan and he needed some cool photos to show off his skills. I present to you: Qotsa Koth, Mandalorian warrior!

2024 Blackshear Gala

In March 2024, I covered was the University of Tennessee College of Law and the Black Law Students Association’s Blackshear Gala at the Knoxville Convention Center. It’s an event to honor Julian Blackshear Jr., one of the school’s first African American graduates and to also celebrate the College of Law’s strong and enduring commitment to diversity and inclusion. The gala also raises funds for the Julian Blackshear Scholarship Fund and highlights the students who are scholarship recipients.

The evening featured guest speaker Teresa Wynn Roseborough, Home Depot Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and honored Dr. Harold Middlebrook with the RBJ Campbelle Jr. Award. Dr. Middlebrook was an active member of the civil rights movement and a friend of Dr Martin Luther King.

2024 Dollywood Leadership Conference

In February 2024, Dollywood commissioned me to cover their annual leadership conference in Sevierville, the Leadership U, with author and speaker Jon Acuff providing a ton of motivation to their managers. As someone in management myself who has been forced to sit through many of these types of conferences for different companies over the years, I was overwhelmingly impressed with the Dollywood family and the care they put into their employees. It was an inspiring event and I’m so glad I got to cover it for them.

Southeast Bumble Bee Survey

In August 2023, I was hired by The Hellbender Press, an online journal focusing on environmental issues around southern Appalachia, to photograph a group of biologists and volunteers conducting a bumble bee survey for the Southeast Bumble Bee Atlas at wildflower patches at the Foothills Land Conservancy in Maryville, TN. The friendly and furry bees were captured, placed on ice to chill out, and then observed and recorded before flying away unharmed.

South Sudanese Student Graduates

In May 2023, I was hired by a local businessman to photograph his adopted daughter's graduation from Maryville College. Betty Asha escaped a horrific life in South Sudan several years ago and has fought to help rescue over 2,000 people from war-torn South Sudan. Miss Asha has faced many challenges in making it to the milestone of graduation and it was an honor to document the day for her and her adoptive family and friends.
